Frequently Asked Questions

How do you choose a ratio for group activities?

The ratio for group activities is determined based on the needs and preferences of the participants involved, as well as the nature of the activity. We aim to strike a balance between providing personalized support and fostering social interaction, ensuring that everyone can engage and participate. Typically, we keep the ratio low to ensure participants have adequate support but still encourage social interaction and teamwork. We assess each individual’s needs and tailor the group size accordingly, always aligning with NDIS guidelines and best practices.

To see what specific activities are available each week, check out our Group Programs page for more details.

What happens if I no longer want to share a ratio with others?

If you prefer not to share a group ratio and would like more individualized support, we offer one-to-one support options where you can still engage in activities at your own pace, with tailored guidance and assistance. We understand that everyone has different comfort levels and are happy to accommodate your preferences, ensuring you still get the most out of your experience. Please speak to your support worker about transitioning to a one-on-one support plan.

How can I get to the group programs?

We encourage participants to exercise their independent living skills by making their own way to our facilities for group programs whenever possible. For those who may need assistance or cannot independently attend, we can arrange one-to-one support to help you travel to the Paylos centre for the group activity. Our aim is to foster independence while ensuring that everyone has access to our programs, with support available if required.

What costs are covered by my NDIS plan, and what will I need to pay out of pocket?

NDIS funding generally covers the costs of the group program itself, including the support provided during the session. However, you may need to cover additional out-of-pocket expenses such as personal items (e.g., food or entry fees for external activities).

If you have any questions about what's covered and what's an out-of-pocket expense, feel free to reach out to our finance team for clarification. They can help you navigate the details and ensure you understand what will be covered by your NDIS plan.

What types of activities are included in group programs?

Our group programs offer a wide range of engaging activities that focus on skill development in both social and practical areas. Whether you're learning life skills, building teamwork through games and outdoor adventures, or enhancing your creativity with hands-on projects, we provide opportunities to grow in a fun, supportive environment. Our activities help with cooking, problem-solving, physical skills, and even technical abilities like vehicle maintenance.

How do you ensure group activities are engaging for participants who might be anxious or reluctant to join?

We understand that some participants may feel anxious or reluctant to engage in new activities. To address this, we design our group activities with flexibility, offering a variety of options and the ability to tailor the experience to meet individual needs. Our support workers are trained to encourage gradual participation and provide comfort to those who need extra reassurance.

In addition, we’ve created a YouTube channel where participants can learn about our programs at their own pace, helping to ease any anxiety about new experiences. Plus, by offering a wide range of activities, we can ensure that there’s something for everyone—allowing participants to engage with what interests them most, which can help reduce anxiety and increase confidence.

If needed, we can adjust group sizes or transition participants to more one-to-one support to ensure that each person feels comfortable and supported. The NDIS emphasises flexibility in tailoring programs to suit individual needs, and we make it a priority to meet those needs in a way that’s engaging and supportive.

How do you match participants with support workers?

At Paylos, we take the time to understand each participant’s preferences, goals, and personality to match them with a support worker who best aligns with their needs. This includes considering specific skill sets, shared interests, and personality traits to ensure comfort and rapport. Additionally, we ensure that the support needs of the participant are met with the experience and expertise of the support worker. Your input during this process is essential to make sure the match is a good fit, and we aim for a collaborative, effective partnership that supports your goals.

Can I change support workers if I feel it’s not a good fit?

Yes, you can change support workers if you feel it’s not a good fit. Your comfort and the quality of support are our priorities. If you feel that you don’t get along with your support worker or if it’s not a good fit, please contact our bookings coordinator, who will assist you in finding a more suitable support worker. However, if you have serious concerns about the quality of care or any other significant issues, we encourage you to contact our complaints team, who will address the matter promptly. We value open communication and are committed to ensuring that you receive the best possible support.

Are support workers available outside standard hours for special events or emergencies?

Yes, our support workers can be booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. For support sessions outside standard hours (later than 10pm or earlier than 6am), we encourage you to provide as much notice as possible. This allows us to prepare the staffing pool for those hours and ensure we can meet your needs. You can discuss your specific requirements with our bookings department to make the necessary arrangements.
